Individual Taxpayer Identification Number

ITIN Campaign Objectives

What is it?
An ITIN is a tax processing number issued by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS)that allows you to file taxes and claim tax credits.

Who is Eligible?
The IRS issues ITINs to individuals who are required to have a U.S. taxpayer identification number but who do not have, and are not eligible to obtain, a Social Security Number (SSN).

Low-income Californians who file tax returns with an ITIN—primarily undocumented immigrants—are eligible to claim the California Earned Income Tax Credit (CalEITC) and Young Child Tax Credit (YCTC).

What are the benefits?
An ITIN is an important step in establishing a financial history for yourself and your family.

An ITIN can also provide access to other resources, such as:

  • Apply for a mortgage to purchase a home
  • Securing financial aid for college
  • CalEITC tax credits!
